From nearly joining the military to walking Givenchy runways and starring in one of 2025’s most talked-about music videos, Geron McKinley’s story is one of the more unlikely career arcs in the industry right now.
Geron McKinley was never supposed to be a model. Growing up in Compton, California, the plan was to enlist in the military. A chance encounter with a talent agent changed that. He was approached, told he could earn more money, and after a period of deliberation, he gave modeling a shot. Within a few years, he was in front of Steven Meisel’s lens for the cover of Vogue Italia.

The “Luther” Video and a Moment That Landed Globally
In April 2025, Kendrick Lamar and SZA released the official music video for “Luther,” their GNX collaboration that had been generating attention since the album dropped late 2024. The video, directed by Karena Evans and filmed largely at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, placed McKinley as SZA’s love interest opposite Annahstasia Enuke, who appears alongside Lamar.
The video alternates between black-and-white and color, leaning heavily into the romantic, nostalgic tone of the track, which samples Luther Vandross’s version of “If This World Were Mine.” McKinley’s scenes with SZA drew immediate attention, with viewers noting the chemistry between the two and the film’s warm, cinematic quality. For McKinley, the credit added a new dimension to an already substantial career.
“Iam excited to be a part of an agency that champions growth for its clients outside of traditional modeling work.”

A Modeling Career Built at the Top End
McKinley did not build his profile through lower-tier work. From early on, the campaigns and runways attached to his name were among the most recognizable in global fashion. He has appeared in campaigns for Givenchy, Versace, Fenty, Fear of God, Balmain, Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Tom Ford Beauty, United Colors of Benetton, Madewell, Zara, and Reebok by Pyer Moss, among others. He has also been photographed by some of the industry’s most prominent names, including Steven Klein, Sebastian Kim, and Giampaolo Sgura.
On the runway, his credits include Givenchy, Balmain, Bottega Veneta, and Hermes. In December 2022, he appeared on the cover of L’Officiel Italia. In June 2022, he was on the digital cover of Esquire Germany. He has been represented by Storm Management, one of the most prominent model agencies in the world, alongside CAA Fashion, which signed him in 2021 to represent him across all areas, not just modeling.

Moving Into Acting
The “Luther” video was not McKinley’s first time on screen. In 2021, he appeared in the music video for H.E.R. and Chris Brown’s “Come Through.” That same year, he appeared in a short film called The Beat. In 2025, his screen credits expanded significantly with Him, a feature film directed by Justin Tipping, which also stars Marlon Wayans, Julia Fox, and Tierra Whack. The project centers on an athlete dealing with career-ending brain trauma who gets a lifeline from a legendary quarterback. McKinley appears in a supporting capacity alongside a cast that spans comedy, music, and film.
CAA’s approach to McKinley when they signed him in 2021 was to treat him the same way the agency handles musicians and actors, not just fashion clients. The agency’s fashion division head, Christian Carino, told WWD at the time that the goal was to build teams that could monetize talent’s full potential, not just their runway work. That positioning appears to have paid off. The “Luther” casting and the Him film credit both came after that signing.

Off the Runway: CNCRT Inc.
One aspect of McKinley’s profile that has been consistent since early in his career is his nonprofit work. CNCRT Inc., which he founded and runs, is based in Los Angeles and focuses on giving inner-city youth access to opportunities in art, music, sports, and entrepreneurship. He mentioned the organization in interviews as far back as 2015, when he was describing what occupied his time outside of modeling assignments. It has remained a visible part of how he presents himself publicly.
Geron McKinley is, at this point, one of the more complete figures to have come out of the male modeling world in the last decade, with a track record in fashion that few peers can match and a screen career now firmly established.
